I can take action to improve the water cycle in Canterbury
In this project I was working with Logan and we decided to create a water filter.

This is a video ;-)

This is our presentation
In this project we decided that our success criteria was It needed to be strong, to last, be portable and to produce clean water.

Overall our project meets this criteria because it was portable, strong, The water was clean-ish and it should last.

Merit cando #9

For pals I have been refereeing football for Kauri and Logan and I have been doing yr 4 and yr6 but the yr6s never show up and one day with the yr 4s. I showed integrity because I was unbiased and I was fair when something happened.

Merit Can do #10

Today for Gardening club we were pulling out weeds near the senior Playground. We were resilient because we were the only people outside because the weather was bad and we stayed out until Mr McAven told us to go inside because it was about to rain and hail. I was also trustworthy because I turned up on time ready to go.

My Water Cycle Info Report

The Water Cycle

The water cycle is an important process that all the water in the world goes through. There are different stages in the cycle and they are Evaporation, Condensation, Precipitation, Runoff and Groundwater. Also the water changes state throughout the process. It goes from liquid to gas and then to solid and back again.

Evaporation

Evaporation is an invisible process that changes water into a gas; it’s when vapour is formed from the sun heating up the water. Then the The process is made faster on a hot day. The amount of vapour in the air is humidity. When the vapour floats up to the atmosphere It forms clouds which is called condensation.

Condensation/ Precipitation

Condensation is when clouds form. It happens when the temperature changes and the vapour forms clouds. Precipitation (water coming down to earth) is when the clouds build up and water comes out of them. The water come down to earth in different forms and they are rain, hail, sleet and snow. The precipitation causes water to come down and cause runoff.

Runoff/ Groundwater.

Runoff is basicly water coming downhill. The water can come down from the hills, go straight into bodies of water or soak into the ground. A Lot of our drinking water is underground in aquifers.

And then the water gets evaporated and it goes round the water cycle again and again.

And on Tuesday I showed respect by listening to both teams when there were some disagreements. And we sorted them out.

I can recognise and understand a variety of grammatical constructions and some rhetorical patterns

In this unit I have been learning about:
  • The parts of speech.
  • The types of nouns.
  • The types of sentences.

In this unit, I found nothing challenging

I had to do sentences and it was easy.

I can apply my knowledge of adverbial clauses and connectives to see how ideas are linked in texts.

I can apply my knowledge of adverbial clauses and connectives to see how ideas are linked in texts.

For reading I have been learning about adverbial clauses. I have found this learning is a bit bring but easy because I found out it was less complicated than I thought it would be

In this activity Click here for the link , I had to highlight the adverbial clauses

My CARE Progress

My CARE Progress

I have done a check of my CARE progress so far this year.

I am doing ok because I got lots of ticks but I haven't recorded all of them yet

I am close to get my bronze but I need to record my tick's

The area of CARE that I need to try harder in C / A / R / E, (community) because I have the least amount of ticks in community.

To achieve my BRONZE award quicker I need to record my ticks

The one thing that I can do to improve my progress in CARE is recording my ticks

We will review CARE progress again at the end of the term.

My short story

For this piece of writing I have focussing on my vocabulary and punctuation. I have been learning to: -
  • use a range of precise vocabulary to communicate meaning (Year ⅞)
  • use all basic punctuation independently and attempt more complex punctuation (eg semicolons, colons, parentheses) (Year 7/8
The pieces of my writing that are highlighted green are where I have shown my vocabulary and punctuation goal

The bush ride

As the engine roared into life Shaun started riding round. Then he saw his mate Dan going over the hill out of control. Shaun had a Honda CRF 450 and Dan had a KTM SX 450. They arrived at  the start of the Mackley river track near denniston they turned on to the track the track and started riding along.

They pulled up at the first turn off the main track was one way and the track to Stockton so they turned right and that was the track. They found to the highest part and there was a turn off. They turned left thinking it was the track but it wasn't. They kept going and then there was another turn-off and they went right and the track was tight and the got lost... They stopped and decided to build a fire.

Shaun said We are very close to water so they checked around and they discovered a little creek so they built a fire and also they made a hut from bushes and sticks. The next morning the boys got on their bikes and rode around looking for a track after a while they found a river and they rode along the bank looking for anything. They found an old hut that had heaps of stuff in it.
They spotted some guns and they went hunting the saw a huge boar charging at them So Shaun got the gun and shot  It was that big that both of them had to carry it. They build a fire and they gutted the boar and then they cooked it.

In the morning they built a help sign and they created as much smoke as they could with the fire. Later that day a helicopter was flying around and it spotted the smoke and it landed and picked Shaun and Dan up. They got home and they were very relieved that they were home.

I can describe the structure of a Short Story

Something I have learned about the structure of short stories is the problem starts fast.

After reading some short stories two things I will remember when I write my own short story are keep it short and make it interesting.

Exposition Writing

WALT: Follow the writing process to write an exposition

We all wrote an exposition.

This my conclusion

Overall I believe Brendon McCullum is a better leader because he has achieved some great things and he has changed cricket, and also made cricket popular for kids in NZ.

Music

Music

I can describe the characteristics of music from songs of a different time and place

Over the past 7 weeks I have been learning to describe the characteristics of music from songs of a different time and place

I can describe these characteristics in a piece of music
Melody - A Series of single notes that gets played repeatedly There are three main parts of a melody in music motives, phrases and periods.
Harmony - The parts of harmony break down into two types chords and arpeggios.
Rhythm - Rhythm has three parts of music mono rhythmic, poly rhythmic and tempo. It can change speed.
Timbre - Its own sound There are 2 types of timbre: instrumental and orchestral.
Form - How a song is constructed. Form is the part of music that places all of the elements into an intelligible structure.

Here is an example of my learning

Wednesday 13 April 2016

Term 1 Integrated Learning - Leadership

We have been learning all about What makes a good leader.

Here is a link to the Leadership modelling book.

We identified that good leaders show 6 main character traits. These are Integrity, Trustworthy, Resilient, Goal focused, Active thinker and Motivational.

The leadership trait that I think I show the most is Resilient because I don't give up when things are hard.

The leadership trait I would most like to develop is Motivation because I don't think I'm good at it.

Something NEW I have learned about leadership is the traits of an effective leader.

The SOLO level that I reached during this unit of learning is Extended Abstract because I can evaluate the effectiveness of a leader.

My next step in learning about leadership is to apply everything that I have learned about leadership to my own leadership roles.

Wednesday 6 April 2016

I can apply the effective strategies when researching using the Google Search Engine.

Year ⅞ -  I can use appropriate skills and technologies to find and use a range of texts for specific purposes.

For my “Evaluating Leaders” research I have been researching about Richie McCaw and Brendon McCullum

During this unit I have had to use a range of strategies to find the information I needed on Google. This include:
Cross-checking the info
Using Advanced search

I have achieved this goal because I have cross-checked and used the other strategies.

My next step is to set a new reading goal.

Thursday 31 March 2016

Striking and fielding

My Strengths

The striking strategies I was able to effectively demonstrate during the games we played were being side on, good stance and eyes on the ball

The throwing and catching strategies I was able to effectively demonstrate during the games we played were doing the cup or reverse cup when I could

My Next Steps

To improve my striking of a ball I need to not do the pull shot and remember that I'm not using a cricket bat because we need to hit the ball in a V and the tennis racket is a lot different to a cricket bat

To Improve my catching and fielding I need to I need to judge the ball better because a tennis ball moves differently to a cricket ball

The game that I enjoyed the most was round the bases because it was easier and the rules were better

Wednesday 23 March 2016

I can identify the way that writers use language and ideas to suit their purpose.

This is one of my follow up activity's that my group did

We had to say if it was persuasive, entertaining or informative. We read 4 stories/ texts overall and we did two activity's

Monday 21 March 2016

Overall the evidence for this side is weak because Most of these points are opinions that a group of people agree on because they want the flag to be changed.

Overall the evidence for this side is strong because most of these statements are more factual as they’re common knowledge.
